autumn-makeup-2015

With the appearance of September I for one have almost left Summer behind and thoughts of Autumn and crisp weather are creeping in. I personally love Autumn and all that comes with it, even the rainy days which I find a good excuse to laze around with a blanket and watch films.

But of course I especially love the change in makeup; for me it means smokey gold and brown eyes, deep lips and endless rich nail choices.

Here I've put together all the beauty products that I cannot wait to wear this season and also show off on Makeup Savvy - autumnal leaf nails will be happening!

autumn_2015-makeup-trends

Max Factor Smokey Eye Drama Kit - Sumptuous Gold
£1.49 - eBay here
This was my eBay bargain of last month and though I couldn't resist trying it out this was purely purchased for Autumn smokey eyes as the tones to this are stunning and catch the light perfectly. It also offers just the right amount of shades to create an easy eye look, plus there's a handy brow powder in there too! This really is a little gem of a product! You can also find it in Boots for £8.99 here.

L'Oreal Volume Million Lashes Feline Mascara
£9.99 - Boots here
With golden smokey eyes I often feel a heavy voluminous mascara can look over done, especially with liquid eyeliner, something I can't be without. So this L'Oreal Volume Million Lashes Mascara is the perfect choice for me. This does give some volume to the base of the lashes but I find it also separates and splays out the lashes to give a feline look to the eyes which is very chic. Also with the curved brush you really do get a good lift to the lashes that holds well. Just a really lovely mascara!

BD Trade Secrets Dream Shine Highlighter
£7.99 - Tesco Direct or in-store (discontinued)
As for skin I like to wear a light to medium coverage foundation and to keep it looking dewy and fresh, which is where the BD Highlighter comes in! This has been a joy to use over the summer months but I'm now imagining using it over a wider area of the cheeks and along the brow bones to achieve that dewy look. This is kind of my version of strobing even though I feel strobing didn't need to ever exist as a trend and highlight on it's own without contouring has always been a thing. Ramble aside this is a wonderful liquid highlighter that isn't overly glittey and is slightly warm toned, making it ideal for Autumn.

autumn-lip-colours-2015

Olivia Palermo X Ciate London Satin Kiss Lipstick - Velveteen
£19.00 - Ciate website here
On to lips now with quite a luxury choice that I've literally been saving for Autumn. This delightful and very luxury looking lipstick is from the new Autumn line between Ciate and the stunning and ever chic Olivia Palermo. I obviously can't comment on the formula and wear just yet as I've even resisted swatching it, but if Ciate's past lipsticks are anything to go by then it will be creamy yet long lasting on the lips. This is a stunning rich vampy deep red shade that screams Autumn!

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick in Beau Brun
£8.99 - Boots here
Another gorgeous lip colour that will be adorning my lips this Autumn is one of the deep shades in the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick range. Beau Brun is a unique shade and one I can't put my finger on but it's deep yet subtle on the lips... well as subtle as a bold lip can be. The formula also makes it a dream to wear as it's a satin matte finish that isn't drying on the lips. I also really love how the finish really does have a velvet look to it; soft yet matte. I love all the shades in the Rouge Edition Velvet range but this shade is a total winner for Autumn... I am kinda hoping Bourjois will release some new vampy berry shades soon though!

 Autumnal Nail Colours
Ahhh, Autumn nails, how I love you so. For me Autumn nails are easy - deep berry or copper shades or some kind of autumn glitter/nail art over nude nails. Already I've found myself wearing quite an autumnal shade with Sally Hansen Lustre Shine in Lava (£3.95 eBay here). With the pink/coppy duochrome I find this is such a great transition shade and so pretty when it catches the light. However once Summer has fully left us I will be instantly wearing Barry M Gelly Hi-Shine Nail Polish in Paprika (£3.99 Boots here) and Olivia Palermo X Ciate London Paint Pot in Napa Valley (£17.00 Ciate here), both solid and rich colours that feel so autumnal to me. I wonder how many times I can used the word 'autumnal'!

As for over nude shades, my go-to nude is Barry M Gelly Hi-Shine in Lychee FYI, I absolutely love Technic Glitter Nail Polish in Bedazzled (£5.99 eBay here). Years ago I had my heart set on finding a simple copper glitter top coat and I finally found it with this Technic beauty. Copper glitter over a light base colour really is so pretty and very autumn-y indeed. As for nail art I will be certainly trying out these Maple Leaf Nail Decals (£99p eBay here) that I stumbled across on eBay, these were a total bargain that I know will look fab - I can't wait to try them out!

Really hope you've enjoyed reading the first of many Autumn beauty posts! I do love blogging in Autumn (Halloween)/Winter (Christmas!!!) so much!

Ciate_Haute_house_set

Today I have for you another wonderful set from Ciate. Ciate have to be the most original brand when it comes to gift set packaging and I for one adore their range of seasonal houses. Haute House is Ciate's third seasonal house of 2014 and contains 5 deep shades perfect to both autumn and winter.

The full set costs £22 and includes - Can Can (deep burgundy), For the thrill of it (molten gold), Sass pot (deep purple), Knee highs (royal blue) and Tickle my fancy (rich emerald). All the shades are standard mini size and of course will last you a long time... in fact I think I prefer mini bottles especially as Ciate nail polishes retail for £9.00 each!

Ciate_Haute_House_swatches

This set is incredibly good if you love deep rich shades on your nails come this time of year, as you have a perfection selection of deep metallic, duo chromes and rich tones here. I personally love the rich metallic red and the royal blue but all the shades are very wearable.

The only let down with this set is Ciate do state these are one-stroke wonders however the molten gold really does require a few coats as does the metallic red. But other than that this set is really lovely if you are wanting a new selection of good quality nail polishes to try out or of course as a gift. I think most nail polish lover would love this, also the little house looks great as a display on a shelf or desk.

You can find the Haute House set at Boots here or Selfridges here (who I've just realised offer a free click & collection service - got to love avoiding paying delivery costs!)

Also Ciate have just released their last house of the year; a Candy Cane House for Christmas?! This can be found on Asos here  for £25.00.

Autumn_interior_decor_UK

When it comes to seasons I like to fully embrace them... I also love to change up the decor in my home. So it now seems to be a tradition of mine that I have seasonal decorations!

So as I'm feeling very autumnal and tomorrow is Halloween I thought I would share with you my homeware additions, my little doggy and a few other bits & bobs...

Owl_autumn_decor

Around the fire
First up is my mantelpiece/fire which I always like to make a feature of even though I don't ever turn the fire on. The main thing here that makes it look cosy and autumnal is my orange maple leaf garland that I purchased from eBay a few years ago (you can find similar cheap ones here). This just brings the outdoors in and the burnt orange shade is spot on. I also like my owls especially the lovely one above, so Oscar Owl (from Homebase last year) takes pride of place on the end of my mantel piece. Next to that I have my wonderful Village Candle in Brownie Delight (£13.24 - eBay here) that I've been continuously burning... I promise it literally smells like you have been baking brownies, I can't even detect a synthetic scent to it!

Then to the hearth of my fire I have a little Halloween sign (a bargain at £1 from Poundworld) and a vintage brass birdcage (found at a car boot) to one side then some white log ornaments (from Homesense) and a pumpkin (£1.50 - Asda) I intend to carve, as long as my dog stops scratching at it!

Asda_owl_Cushion

Cosy soft furnishings
As it gets colder cushions and blankets that double up as throws are a must! My two new cushions where a brilliant buy from Asda (£7 each - owl here/squirrel here) which I couldn't be more pleased with - Mr. owl will be staying out till way pass Christmas. On a side note I highly recommend Asda this year for cushions and bedding - great quality, affordable and just spot on for Autumn and Christmas. As for my very cozy and warm throw this was a bit of a splurge from Homesense as it was around £25, but I figure if it will keep me from turning on the heating as much then it's paid for itself, right?

Little extras
Next to the armchair in my living room I have a simple brown wicker picnic basket that I use as kind of an informal side table. This always has a stack of books on it and a special Believe in Yourself Notebook (£8.49 - Amazon here) which is where I plan all my blog posts. Every other page has a little encouraging quote to it and it's just beautiful. Next to that tends to be a drink of some kind if I'm blogging away... at the moment I love Whittard's Turkish Apple Instant Tea (£5.50 here) during the day - which is in an red owl mug... I told you I liked my owls! Sadly I don't know where it's from as it was a gift last Christmas. Then the little coaster underneath, again featuring owls, were a savvy buy from B&M Bargains at 99p for a set of two.

Hope you've enjoy this slightly different type of post today and I've maybe inspired you to add a few autumnal editions to your home or bedroom!

Autumn_makeup_2014

With Autumn in full swing I feel it's the right time to share the products I have and will be reaching for in the next few months.

So without further ado as I know this post will be epically long as it is, here are my run down of products I recommend for both Autumn and Winter. All of which can be found on the high street and for the most part are budget friendly.

Come colder weather I opt for strong metallic eyes, which is thankfully on trend this year and medium coverage skin to hide any redness. As for lips I still opt for my go-to nudes, though I will be going a little darker this season to fit in with the 90's nude lip trend and of course vivid berry shades for then I'm feeling daring! As for cheeks, autumnal shades always grab me though again I do revert back to a flush of colour as it just looks so pretty against dewy skin. Below are product recommendations for these trends that I feel most people will get on with and hopefully love.

4

EYES
As I mentioned above I'm already all about strong metallic eyes and thankfully the high street is awash is unique shades. However for low maintenance days a good neutral palette is required, as is a good eyeliner that stays put come wind or rain.

The Metallics
First up a true favourite with Maybelline Colour Tattoo in Metallic Pomegranate (£4.99- Boots here); a beautiful burgundy with a soft gold shimmer running through it. This works great alone over the lids or as a base for a dark smokey eye and will not budge or crease all day - think MAC paint pots but a hell of a lot cheaper. Also this shade is just amazing against green or hazel eyes. Onto liquid eyeshadows now with Rimmel Scandaleyes Shadow Paints (£4.99 - Feel Unique here or Boots/Superdrug) in my two favourite shades - Golden Bronze and Manganese Purple. Again perfectly long wearing for wet autumn days and super easy to apply. Both shades are very on point for this year's a/w metallic eyeshadow trend and just beautifully rich looking on the lids.

My One And Only Gel Liner
So Benefit's They're Real Push-up Liner (£18.50 - Look Fantastic here or Boots) has had very mixed reviews and I will admit it can be temperamental/tricky to use but this is hands down the only gel liner I've been using for months now. The reason - well it literally stays put all day long... in fact I have a job removing it! Yes, it does annoyingly ball up on the end at times so you do need a tissue to hand but if you are like me and can't be doing with applying gel eyeliner with a brush every day then you will love this alternative. A must for blustery autumn days!

3

BASE
When it comes to my base I'm usually all about a lighter than light finish but as colder weather can bring out the redness in my skin and also the sallow-ness I opt for a more medium coverage along with a nice liquid highlighter to give a subtle dewy finish. Also I've finally moved away from the blogger beloved Collection Lasting Finish Concealer for an even higher coverage finish to hide my pesky dark circles!

It's About That Base
Yes I couldn't resist the title... I apologise. Amongst a few light to medium foundations in my collection the Rimmel Lasting Finish Nude Foundation (£7.99 - Boots here or Superdrug) is my new go-to for Autumn. With a good neutral shade, medium coverage and amazing staying power I really can't fault the foundation one bit. Then paired with Seventeen Phwoarr Paint under the eyes to banish dark circles my base is pretty much flawless.

Perfect Highlights
But with a perfect base it can sometimes appear quite flat I feel, which is where Lush's Feeling Younger Skin Tint (£12.00 - Lush here) comes in - mixed with my foundation for an all over dewy finish or used as a liquid highlighter post foundation along the high points of the face this works wonders. Then to set everything L'Oreal Nude Magique BB Powder (£6.99 - Boots here) is a serious  multi-tasker giving a velvet look and feel to the skin, blurring out any left imperfections and of course mattifying the skin. Really a powder worth picking up (though I'd ditch the sponge in place of a good buffing brush).

2

LIPS
Ahh lips! Come colder weather pinks are totally off the menu for me and out come a selection of juicy berry shades... plus of course a lot of nudes, because, well I do like to play safe most of the time! But before I even contemplate lipstick shades moisture is top of my agenda. Being prone to dry lips come even a hint of cold weather I arm myself with my essentials - Nivea Lip Butter for day-to-day use, Bepanthen (yes... the nappy cream) for emergency TLC to chapped/sore lips and Sara Happ's or Lush's Lip Scrub to exfoliate with before any kind of matte lip product.

The Berry Lip Colours
When I think of berry lipsticks I instantly think of Rimmel Kate Moss Lasting Finish Lipstick in 107 (£4.45 - Amazon here or Boots/Superdrug)... which I ironically forgot to include in the photos for this post! But please do Google away and then proceed to buying it if you love a good berry shade - I really have yet to see it not suit someone! Then coming close second would be NYX Round Lipstick in Hero (£3.93 - eBay here), I raved about this last Autumn and the Autumn before that because it's the most comfortable and long lasting berry shade I own, plus the red/berry hue is just stunning. As for my new favourite for this year it has to be Rimmel Apocolips in Across The Universe (£6.49 - Boots here or in select Poundworld stores!) which is a beautiful red berry liquid lipstick, though best reserved for when not eating I find! Anyone else feel super self conscious they are looking like the joker after eating whilst sporting any liquid lipstick?

Comfort Zone Lip Colour
When wearing anything overly metallic on my eyes I like to opt for a good nude lip. With a plethora of nude shades I could have featured so many here but I decided to share with you my one and only favourite comfortable matte nude lipstick as I know they are few and far between with high street brands. Soap & Glory Super Fabulipstick Powder Coat in Super Nude (£9.00 - Boots in-store) is as it's named... think a good hydrating lipstick but with a powder coat over the top to give a perfect matte finish. This is a true gem in my collection. Other comfortable nude lipsticks for A/W include the Rimmel Moisture Renew range and anything from Kiko. For more darker nude shades check out my current top 5 here

5

CHEEKS
Cheek colour is the easiest thing to switch up I feel and come Autumn every brand has a selection of skin warming tones. Again I like to opt for autumnal shades but then will find myself going back to what I know with a flush of pink, this year it's between Benefit Dandelion Blusher and NYC BB Cream Stick in Never Sleeping Pink; a total bargain and an amazing product.

Cheek Colours of the Wind
Without a second thought my annual autumn blush palette have to be Sleek's amazing Blush by 3 compact in Sugar (£9.99 - Amazon here or select Superdrug stores). This just screams Autumn to me with it's beautiful trio of warm colours, so much so I can't pick a favourite shade. Shades in this palette include (from left to right) - Turbinado, Muscovado and Demerara. A sweet treat I would recommend to anyone with pale to medium toned skin.

Working that Contour
Contouring features in my routine all year round but come Autumn as my skin in looking paler I like to tone it down with a more ashy toned bronzer. My favourite for this is Benefit Hoola Bronzer (£23.50 - Feel Unique here) which I apply with the provided brush and then buff it in with the Real Techniques Buffing Brush. As of yet I haven't found any other cooler toned bronzers but if you know of any I'd love if you could let me know in the comments below.

Hope you've enjoyed this mammoth post!

Let me know what type of products you love to use in Autumn.

Autumn_Beauty_Shopping_list

Autumn like all other seasons brings new products aplenty but for me it's just on the cusp of Christmas meaning I'm aware that I can't be too spendy come November onwards. This results in me being ever so slightly indulgent and snapping up the beauty bits I want.

Here are a few products that are new this Autumn that are at the top of my shopping list...

Autumn_2014_beauty_Products

Rimmel Lasting Finish Nude Foundation in 010 Light Porcelain
£7.99 - Boots here
Rimmel's original Lasting Finish Foundation was a product I heard many bloggers mention and generally rave about however due to my ever so slow nature I didn't get around to purchasing it. But with the new formula boosting a 25 hour wear and a lightweight formula it now seems only right to skip the original and go for the new foundation. With light enough tones for my pale skin tone and offering a medium coverage for often red a/w skin this seems like it could be an ideal foundation for me!

Nip + Fab Dragon's Blood Cleansing Pads
£9.99 - ASOS here
Nip + Fab is a brand I opt for when I want something a bit different but still don't want to pay ££ for. They always seem to have unique skincare that's effective which is why I'm intrigued to try the fairly new Dragon's Blood Fix Cleansing Pads. The pads contain both salicylic and hyaluronic acid to both deeply cleanse the pores and improve the appearance of the skin for a more youthful look. Also pads like these are super easy to use meaning I won't skip them before bed.

Revlon Lip Butter in Red Velvet
£7.99 - Boots here
This is very much an enabled want after a recent blog post on Miss Budget Beauty featuring her own collection of berry toned Revlon Lip Butters. Her lip swatches of Red Velvet instantly made me want it for A/W due to it's beautiful deep raspberry red shade. I've had a hit and miss experience with the pigmentation of lip butters in the past but this looks exactly what I want a lip butter to be... glossy and comfortable on the lips yet pigmented.

Barry M Gelly Hi Shine Nail Paint in Chilli and Mustard
£3.99 each - Boots/Superdrug
Barry M's recent nail polish offerings are spot on for Autumn with a range of unique warm shades. My favourite shade from the new range is Paprika which I actually featured in yesterday's post but now feel I need Chilli and Mustard to add to my autumnal collection.

Dove Advanced Oxygen Moisture Root Lift Spray
£3.49 (half price) - Boots here
Dove is a brand that really does impress me when it comes to hair products; they are affordable and stand out in the sea of other genetic styling products. In fact their new Oxygen Moisture range may just be the most excited hair range I've come across this year as I love that you now don't need to pick between volume and moisture as so many volumising products are utterly drying on the roots. Very eager to try this out to see if it works!

Lush Snowman Shower Jelly
£3.50 - Lush here or in-store
As an avoider of SLS's in shower products I don't often go into Lush however as a one-off treat I do let myself buy from there - whether it be one of their amazing soaps or a fun shower gelly. With their weird wobbly feel and amazing scent I love to use these in the shower and this little fella definitely caught my eye as they are normally just shaped into an unaesthetic chunk. Expect a little Lush haul from me soon!

Barry_M_Paprika

Long gone seem the days where I use to posts NOTD's and love a simple nail post. But for no real reason other than I'm been busying blogging about other things. So today with a new treasure of a nail polish shade I thought I would get back to my roots and write a good ol' fashioned nail post.

Recently Barry M have been one of the main brands for me when it came to new Autumn/Winter releases, releasing some amazing nail polish shades in their Gelly Hi-Shine range. The shade that instantly caught my attention was Paprika - think crisp burnt orange leaves. Much like all the shades in the Gelly range this applies a dream, only requires 1-2 coats and looks perfectly glossy on the nails.

Barry_M_Gelly_Paprika_swatches

As I'd had a week of wearing this on my nails and loving it I thought I'd re-apply and add a little nail art to see how Paprika looked as a base nail colour. So out came a dotting tool and my favourite opaque white nail polish from Avon - French White from an Avon French Manicure duo set and of course my NYC Clear Top Coat; the glossiest thing you can find on the high street for under £2.

How-to: Neat Polka Dot Nails
After a quick coat of Barry M Paprika (yes, that is only a single coat) I decided I'd give myself simply polka dots! If you are curious as to how to get a neat polka dots pattern instead of just going for it with a dotting tool then simply start with a vertical row of dots down the middle of the nail. Then generally 2 more lines either side inbetween the spaces of the initial dots. This creates an equal pattern and a much neater look that changes your nails from quickly done dots to pro polka dots!

I really like how these nails turned out and will be definitely trying more nail art out over this autumnal base colour.

Paprika, Mustard and Chilli are all shades I'd highly recommend from the new Barry M shades that will give instant autumnal nails!

After months of brights and pastels Autumn nails can come as a refreshing change. It personally gives me the opportunity to sport more chic nails with deep berry shades and experiment with different textures.

However you need not spend that much at all to be on season with all my favourites here costing no more than £5 and all available on the high street!

Barry_M_Paprika_swatches

Revlon Parfumerie Scented Nail Polish in 'Autumn Spice'
£6.49 - Boots or in select Poundworld stores!
Ahhh Revlon you always get it so right. From their standard nail enamel range to their newer Parfumerie scented collection I've always been a fan and with their latest shades I think I may even be more in love with them! Autumn Spice is undoubtedly an ideal shade for autumn/winter with it's beautiful duo chrome brown/pink sheen. The formula applies amazingly well and lasts without chipping. As for the scented aspect of the range I'm still debating in my own head the point, even though I'm always drawn to them . I've yet to come up with a reason for scented nail polishes to exist but Autumn Spice certainly smells lovely and cosy!

Barry M Gelly Nail Polish in 'Paprika'
£3.99 - Boots or Amazon here
Barry M are certainly on point with their latest a/w nail polish offerings in the Gelly range. Out of the 6 new shades released Paprika is without a doubt the most autumnal and my personal favourite. Like all shades in the Gelly range this applies perfectly, looks smooth and glossy and requires only 2 coats. Chilli and Mustard (which you will either love or hate!) are also perfect shades for Autumn.

Models_Own_Fizzy_Cola_swatches

Seventeen Chalk Dots Nail Effects Nail Polish
£3.99 - Boots in-store
Not an obvious autumnal choice here but a nail polish top coat I was instantly drawn to in Boots. In a strange way I feel this fits with the marble interior trend at the moment with it's grey tones instead of it being just a contrast of black and white. The speckled effect looks amazing on and certainly a nail polish people are likely to admire. For reference I applied 2 coats over a white nail polish base as it quite milky/sheer.

Models Own Scented Nail Polish in 'Fizzy Cola'
£5.00 - Boots in-store or Superdrug here
A softer option here with a light brown nail polish that contains an interesting mix of fine gold shimmer and small white dots. This looks lovely and warming on the nails and works well with pale skin tones . Application is a breeze and the gold shimmer is subtle but stunning when it catches the light. Also the scented cola bottles scent is addictive - must remember to not sniff my nails in public!

I also planned to feature one of the new Rimmel Velvet Matte Nail Polishes in Sumptuous Red however within a day it had already chipped and continued to horrendously chip and flake off on day 2 of wearing it. A gorgeous shade and finish but sadly not a nail polish I can recommend based on how badly it chips - shame on you Rimmel!

Hope you'd enjoyed this nail post - I loved taking the pics for it!

easy-nutella-banana-bread

Baking it my thang at the moment, especially at the weekend. For me there's nothing better than a Sunday film afternoon, cosied up with a slice of homemade cake. Mmmmm!

This is my indulgent Nutella Banana Bread recipe that is oh so amazing, if I do say so myself, and very much worth trying out!

What you will need
  • 2 cups all-purpose/plain flour
  • 3/4 tsp. baking soda/bicarbonate of soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3 medium ripe bananas
  • 1/3 cup semi skimmed milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 3/4 heaping cup Nutella
  • 8x4 Loaf pan
This is an American recipe which is why it's in cups but I'd highly recommend buying a set of plastic measuring cups. You can find a good 8-piece cup & spoon set from Amazon here, which are very similar to what I use.

1

1. First mash up all 3 bananas and pre-heat your oven to 180 celsius (170 c. fan assisted) or 350 degrees. I find placing the banana on the worktop and mashing them with the back of a fork to be the easiest method.

2. In a medium bowl mix together flour, baking soda and salt.

3. In a separate larger bowl, beat your sugar and butter together until blended - you can do this by hand with a wooden spoon or with an electric mixer.

4. Add eggs one at a time, beating well in between.

2

5. Add mashed bananas, milk and vanilla extract and beat until blended.

6. Next add your flour mixture and beat at a low speed if using an electric mixer. You want to incorporate all the flour here without over mixing.

7. Taking your Nutella in a microwave safe bowl you then want to melt it for 15 seconds in the microwave. Once melted add 1 cup of your banana bread mixture to the Nutella and blend well.

Nutella_Banana_Bread_Recipes

8. In a greased loaf tin you then want to alternate pouring in both batters (the Nutella batter and banana bread batter) swirling both batters with a knife as you go. Once filled, add the remaining Nutella batter to the top and swirl in slightly.

9. Bake for 50-60 minutes in the centre of the oven . Then leave cool in the pan for at least 20 minutes before turning out. When slicing the bread it may look undercooked but it's just the wonderful gooey Nutella!

Serves 10-15 slices depending on the size of your loaf tin and can be kept at room temperature for 2 days or refrigerated for a week.

If you are looking for another gooey chocolate-y recipe here's my 5-minute Chocolate Mug Cake that can be made with standard cupboard ingredients!

Let me know if you try out the recipe either in the comments or on twitter (@makeup_savvy).

10_reasons_to_love_Autumn

1. A change of makeup
First up as this is a beauty blog after all I have to mention how a change of season means new makeup! From new makeup trends to new product launches and also a re-shuffle of your makeup bag. I personally ignore most new trends and go for a staple berry lip (I don't think I will ever fall out of love with Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick by Kate Moss in 107) and beautiful metallic eyeshadows. I also love achieving glowy skin as the weather gets colder.

2. Cozier nights in
Ahhhh there's nothing like a cosy night in with the heating or fire on whilst watching or reading something good!. I'm already thoroughly enjoying snuggling up with a blanket and reading for a few hours with my favourite chocolate brownie candle burning. Autumn is also the perfect time to get hooked on a TV series that gets you excited to watch it every evening - highly recommend Breaking Bad!

3. Comfort food
Colder weather certainly calls for yummy comfort food, from soups to roast dinners and of course takeaway at the weekend! I personally love my slow cooker for homemade soups and live for roast dinners on rainy weekends. I also start to crave warm desserts which may not be too good for my diet but definitely yummy, in fact I'm planning on making Gooey Nutella Banana Bread this week, mmmm (possible blog post?).

4. Halloween
It easy to believe Halloween is just for child however watching a night of scary films or even classics such as Hocus Pocus and Casper can be a great way to celebrate Halloween. Also carving a pumpkin and decorating it is a fun experience whatever your age. I now fully embrace Halloween and look forward to it every year!

5. Bonfire Night
Bonfire Night is another event to look forward to in Autumn, whether it's staying indoors and watching fireworks from your window or braving the cold by wrapping up and enjoying a real bonfire and fireworks display. There's just something about the warmth of a bonfire on your face and tucking into a warm hotpot or something equally yummy whilst stood out in the cold.

6. A new wardrobe
A change of season means a new wardrobe - always an exciting thing! For me out come the black tights, ankle boots and check shirts. Also a scarf or hat can be such an easy way to change up an outfit.

7. Better TV
Finally there are programmes to look forward to! I'm talking X Factor, Strictly Come Dancing, Downton Abbey and The Apprentice. Weekend telly is definitely sorted! Dramas are also not to be missed come Autumn with series such as Our Girl and Cilla to enjoy.

8. Me time
Come colder evenings there's nothing like setting aside some pamper time. This could be sitting reading a new book with a yummy hot chocolate or smothering on a face mask and enjoying a long soak in the bath. I also love getting in to the habit of giving myself a manicure each Sunday night.

9. Everything looks nicer
There's no mistaking that Autumn is a beautiful time of year with fresh sunny mornings and golden leaves covering the ground. Getting out into the fresh air for a walk is something I love to do to feel relaxed and to realise just how amazing nature is! It's also a lovely time to spot more squirrels and go conker hunting.

10. The countdown to Christmas!
Yes, we may all be resisting that Christmas is a-coming but once Halloween has come and gone it's time to embrace the most magical time of the year! From gift shopping to involuntary singing of Christmas songs there no denying that a little sparkle gets into us all come the end of November... I for one can't wait!

I'd love to know what you love about Autumn/Fall in the comments below!

Autumn_comforts_wish_list

Colder days are creeping around the corner and I for one am excited about that fact. I enjoy summer but I love nothing more than feeling cosy and a little excited for Halloween and Christmas! But no talk of the holidays just yet as there are more than enough new products to suffice my buying needs at the moment!

Here are just a few products that I'm eager to get my hands on for Autumn...

Sarah Waters The Paying Guests
£8.00 Hardback - Amazon here
Nothing says autumn like a new book. Especially one you've been waiting to be released! The Paying Guests is Sarah Waters latest book that I'm so looking forward to. I've loved many of her previous books and by the synopsis of her latest books I really don't think I will let down at all. An intriguing and vivid read that I can't wait to get hold of.

Le Creuset Mug in Cerise
£13.00 - John Lewis here
Another thing that feels very autumnal is a chunky mug, though I have more than enough mugs for my non-great love of hot drinks. However come colder months I do enjoy the odd creamy coffee or hot ribena so I feel a new mug is allowed. The red Le Creuset mug has been something I've been tempted to buy a few times but decided against due to the price tag. However I've decided that it's a staple mug that I need in my collection i.e I want to be frivolous.

A Little Princess - Puffin in Bloom Edition
£9.00 Hardback - Amazon here
Back to books with a very special one from the new Puffin in Bloom series which features four classic reads all illustrated by the wonderful illustrator and founder of Rifle Paper Co; Anna Rifle Bond. All the covers just look so beautiful and unique and would make a perfect gift for a book lover. Out of the four titles my favourite would have to be A Little Princess which I'm now more eager to read as only yesterday I re-watched the DVD version and loved it all over again. Also I discovered that the title was actually published in 1905 which I find amazing.

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick
£8.99 - Boots here
On to makeup now with Bourjous liquid lipsticks that have been oh so raved about by bloggers in the past few months. What appeals to me the most with these is the formula which is apparently comfortable to wear but just doesn't budge - perfect for me as I always fear my lipstick is everywhere with a statement lip. These are a bit more than I'd like to pay (yes, I'm a scrooge) but hopefully I will be able to find them on a 'buy 1 get one half price' offer as I really want 'Grand Cru' and 'Frambourjois' (shades seen in image above) both perfect shades for autumn/winter.

Rimmel Velvet Matte Nail Polish
£4.49 - Boots here
New onto the shelves from Rimmel are a range of softer matte nail polishes that I didn't expect to love but after seeing swatches want to snap them all up! The velvet matte effect is just slightly softer than standard matte nail polishes and the shades just scream autumn/winter. Very tempted with 'Sumptuous Red' a perfect oxblood shade and 'Midnight Kiss' a chic dark navy.

Village Candle in Brownie Delight
£12.99 - eBay here
Last but not least I had to feature the most heavenly candle I have ever smelt... I actually don't know how I walked away without buying it (don't worry I bought it online the next day). The candle is from a company I've never heard of before but they are U.S based and apparently give Yankee Candles a run for their money, which I can totally see. I of course smelt the whole range but as soon as I came across Brownie Delight I was in love... I've just literally never smelt a candle that's so true to scent before. It literally smells like the Nigella Lawson's Chocolate Brownies by sister bakes at Christmas which are just a-mazing. Can't wait to get burning this now!

Hope you've enjoyed this very autumnal wish list.

autumn tag
Tag creator - www.makeup-pixi3.com

I'm not a serial tag do-er but I spotted this tag on One Litte Vice and I loved the idea of it as I'm really glad for a change of season this year. Though I'm still wondering where this year has gone!

It also gives me a chance just to ramble about things other than beauty, which I felt I needed this weekend... it's been a stressful one!

 1. Favourite thing about Autumn?
I think I would have to say the cosy feeling it gives me. From needing to wear warmer clothes to because cosy on the sofa with a blanket... especially at the weekend. I also start getting excited for Halloween and looking forward to Christmas which gives me a fuzzily comforting feeling!

2. Favourite drink?
I'm not a hot drinks lover (I've never actually drank a cup of tea?!) however I do occasionally like a white hot chocolate. My favourite one is Whittard's Luxury White Hot Chocolate (here) it's like melted down Milky Bars! Though this Autumn I'm tempted to try the Creme Brulee White Hot Chocolate as it sounds sooo yummy.

3. Favourite scent/candle?
My favourite scent would have to be soft vanilla. I find it sweet but also relaxing and cosy (I feel I've already exhausted the word 'cosy' in this post). My favourite candle is a Neom one called Serenity, which is Vanilla & Sandalwood... though to me it smells like vanilla and Terry's chocolate orange! I find it such a calming scent to burn.

4. Best lipstick?
This should have been best lipstick(s) as I couldn't possible pick only one. Favourites are more berry toned than anything else... though I do still love my nudes. Favourite berry toned lipsticks that pop into my head are - Rimmel Berry Queen, NYX Round Lipstick Hero and Rimmel Kate 107.

5. Go to moisturiser?
I'm totally in love with Clarins HydraQuench Cream. It seems to hydrate and moisture my skin yet feels so light. This will definitely continue to be a part of my routine as the weather gets cooler.

6. Go to colours for the eyes?
I love both neutral matte shades for a smokey eye and metallic golds/taupes/browns. I really enjoy doing my eye makeup in autumn and winter.

7. Favourite music or band/singer to listen to?
I can't say I listen to anything different really. Though my aim this autumn is to fill my iPhone with music as my song count strangely remains at zero due to laziness! I'd say Gabrielle Aplin is a nice artist to listen to... uplifting and easy to listen to.

8. Favourite outfit to wear (i.e. boots & a scarf combo)?
I live in jumper dresses, tights and boots (really wanting some cut-out boots this year). I also love nice scarves and snoods.

9. Autumn treat?
I normally treat myself to a new candle... or 3, and a warm throw/blanket. I also treat myself to cheap dvds on eBay that I remember I love and watch them on Sunday's... things like A Little Princess, The Sound of Music, The Goonies. This year I also need a new winter coat.

10. Favourite place to be?
Without a doubt at home, blogging or watching a film on the sofa all warm. It may sound middle-aged but I also love thinking up a recipe to cook in my slow cooker and making homemade rice pudding - yum!

For extra autumnal-ness you can view my new Autumn Pinterest board here.

I tag - Miss Budget Beauty (I know she loves Autumn!) &  Jewel Sha'ree (a huge Halloween lover).

favourite autumn products

With a change of season I always switch up my makeup and purchase new products (actually everything is new except for two products here). Autumn for me is more about lips than eyes and also radiant but pale skin.

On my nails I like mauve/nude shades or berry shades with unique top coats, not just your average glitter nail polish. So I have picked out a few products that I have been constantly loving and using...

Lush skin tint

Lush Feeling Younger Skin Tint
£12.00/20g - Lush online here
I love my cream highlighters, with Benefit's Girl Meets Pearl and High Beam being my favourites. But now I have a new favourite in the Lush multi-purpose highlighter. I have been using this mixed in with my moisturiser then applying a light BB cream for a lovely dewy glow or sometimes I just mix this straight in my with foundation making my skin look a bit more radiant. I also dot a tiny amount along my cheek and brow bones to highlight them once I have done my makeup. What I think I love most about this is that you can't actually feel it on the skin at all and it just blends in so well. But I also love that it is a subtle highlighter that can be used in so many different ways.

Avon Perfect Wear Liquid Eye Liner Pen - Brown
£3.32 - eBay UK Seller here
In the last 5 years I don't think I have ever gone without eyeliner of some kind when wearing makeup - even when just walking the dog! So I am a huge eyeliner lover with quite an array of gel, pencil, powder and pen style eyeliners. I especially love winged out eyeliner but sometimes it can look a little full on for during the daytime so I went in search for a brown eye liner pen and I literally couldn't find one anywhere! But then I found this on by Avon on eBay and had to buy it at under £4. Now I will admit it isn't that 'wet' of an eyeliner and does take some shaking to get the eyeliner flowing, but once you do it applies really nicely with the firm nib which you can either use just the tip of for a really fine line or at a slight angle for a thicker line. It also lasts all day on me and doesn't flake or rub off. Just great for a winged out eyeliner look during the day.

NYX Round Lipstick Hero

NYX Round Lipstick - Hero
£3.50 - NYX online here
The NYX round lipsticks are without a doubt my favourite lipsticks, yes even more so than MAC lipsticks! They are pigmented, creamy, hydrating and cheap... not to mention the 144 shades to pick from! During summer I am a fan of their nude shades and have around 4 now but come autumn/winter I look forward to wearing their darker shades as they are so comfortable to wear and pigmented, which gives the huge benefit of them leaving a stain to the lips when they wear off. Hero is just one of the most amazing deep/red lipsticks I have actually come across and I'm now annoyed that I didn't actually give you a proper lip swatch as it is just so pretty, but if you are interested here is a swatch on Temptalia. The shade does look quite different on paler lips/fair skin tones but it does give you a good idea of how pigmented and rich the shade is.

I'm just totally in love with this shade right now. I think I may have to do a NYX lipstick collection post quite soon!

China Glaze Hunger Games

Sleek Blusher - Pomegranate
£4.49 - Sleek online here or Superdrug
For me this is an ideal blush for autumn. It just gives that winter flush that can warm up any makeup and brighten the face. I would describe the shade as a burgundy pink with a slight gold shimmer to it. As with all Sleek blushers this is super pigmented so a light hand is needed, though for darker skin tones it means you can easily build up the colour. Actually did you know that the Sleek website now show swatches on fair, medium and dark skin - how good is that! Also last week I used this blusher on my eyes, blended in with shadows from the Urban Decay Naked 2 palette and it looked really nice.

China Glaze Fast Track & Nuber Glitter 2010 Top Coat
£6.95 - Beauty Bay here
It was only a few days ago that I wrote a post on China Glaze Fast Track (here) and that I was a little disappointed with it. However I did fail to mention how I like wearing it with Nubar Glitter 2012 over the top of it, which just brings it to life! The wonderful Nuber flakies nail polish just magnifies the gold particles in Fast Track and it just makes it a lot more interesting. Sadly though I couldn't find a link to the Nubar polish (NOTD swatches here) as it's nowhere to be found online! Such a shame as really this is an amazing nail polish.

I really do enjoy autumn makeup, I'm not sure what it is about it but I just feel like I start re-discovering makeup products. I have even found myself using my Urban Decay Naked 2 palette again which has been naughtily unloved for quite some time and I am also enjoying dark lipsticks so much at the moment
